In a mixer, beat the margarine, sugar, eggs and vanilla well.

Gradually add the flour and baking powder, plus the cocoa for the chocolate cake.

Add the milk last.

Pour the batter into a greased rectangular pan or a 10-inch (26 cm) round pan.

Bake at 350°F (180°C), about 30 minutes in a rectangular pan or about 50 minutes in a round one.
