How I make it
Brownie layer
Melt the butter and chocolate in the microwave.
Whisk in both sugars and the eggs.
Add the flour, cocoa and salt and whisk until smooth and glossy.
Pour into a pan lined with parchment paper and smooth the top. Put it in the freezer to set while you make the blondie batter.
Blondie layer
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
Stir the melted butter with both sugars, the egg and the vanilla.
Add the flour, baking soda and salt and mix just until combined.
Stir in the walnuts and chocolate chips.
Assembling and baking
Take the pan out of the freezer and drop heaping spoonfuls of blondie batter close together over the brownie layer until it is fully covered.
Bake for about 40 minutes, until set and golden.
Cool completely, then chill in the fridge for another 2-3 hours.
Lift out of the pan by the parchment edges, peel off the paper and set on a cutting board. Cut into squares of the size you like.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
What I've learned
- I serve them cold, or at room temperature when I want both layers softer.
