Butter Cookies for Kids Draft

Simple five-ingredient butter cookies I make for the kids, sometimes with chocolate chips or nuts mixed in.

How I make it

  1. Mix the flour, sugar and baking soda.

  2. Cut the butter into cubes and work it into the flour mixture until crumbly.

  3. Add the egg (and any add-ins, if using) and knead into a smooth dough.

  4. Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes.

  5. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).

  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and grease it with butter. Shape small rounds, space them apart and flatten slightly.

  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes. Let the cookies cool completely before taking them off the sheet.

What I've learned

  • Instead of white sugar, I sometimes use 1¼ cups brown sugar.
