How I make it

Churros

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter (or margarine), sugar, vanilla sugar and salt. Stir over the heat until melted.

  2. Add the flour, beating quickly, until the dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the pan.

  3. Remove from the heat and beat in the eggs one at a time. Mix vigorously until the dough is soft and smooth.

  4. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.

  5. Heat oil for deep frying.

  6. Pipe 4-5 inch (10-12 cm) strips into the oil, cutting them off with a knife.

  7. Fry on both sides until golden brown.

Chocolate sauce and serving

  1. Melt the chocolate with the cream in the microwave and whisk well.

  2. Serve the churros with a small bowl of the chocolate sauce for dipping.

  3. Or serve with a small bowl of powdered or granulated sugar for dipping, and sprinkle with cinnamon.
