How I make it

Batter

  1. Whisk the melted butter and sugar in a bowl until evenly combined.

  2. Add the egg and vanilla and mix.

  3. Add the salt and baking powder and mix. For chocolate cake pops, add the melted chocolate now.

  4. Add the flour gradually while mixing (sift it first if you like). For chocolate cake pops, add the cocoa too.

  5. Add the milk and mix until the batter is thick, even and smooth.

Baking

  1. Preheat the cake pop maker until the indicator light shows it's hot.

  2. Spray or wipe a little oil with a paper towel into each well, top and bottom.

  3. Put a teaspoon of batter (generous, but not too full) in each well of the bottom plate.

  4. Close the lid and bake for 4-5 minutes.

  5. Test with a toothpick; if it comes out clean and dry, the cake pops are done.

  6. Carefully remove the balls and let them cool. Repeat with the rest of the batter.

  7. Turn off the cake pop maker when you're done.

What I've learned

  • Don't worry if the batter turns a bit odd and stiff after the flour goes in; it comes together once you add the milk.
  • The maker's instructions say 4-5 minutes; 4 minutes was plenty for me.
