Spaghetti and Chicken Hamin Draft

A Shabbat hamin of spaghetti and paprika chicken over a layer of potatoes that I leave in the oven overnight and turn out of the pot like a cake.

How I make it

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions.

  2. Fry the chicken with the onion, garlic and paprika, and season with salt.

  3. Add 2 cups of water, turn off the heat and cover the pot.

  4. Arrange a layer of potatoes in a tall pot with a little oil and fry until golden.

  5. Layer half the spaghetti over the potatoes, then the chicken, then the rest of the spaghetti.

  6. Pour in the liquid from the chicken and cover with an upside-down plate.

  7. Bake at 212°F (100°C) for 12 hours.

  8. Turn the pot out onto a large platter and serve like a cake.

What I've learned

  • I like to add hard-boiled eggs to the hamin too.
